File Extension Qtp

The .qtp file extension is associated with two programs, the first and most common being Apple's QuickTime. The QuickTime Suite is Apple's multimedia package which allows users to play the most popular formats of digital media, and when used in conjunction with other Mac products, creation and distribution of digital media are also possible. QuickTime uses the .qtp extension for its preferences file. When a user changes his specific preferences within the software, the data is written to this file and stored on the hard drive.

Regtask was able to clean up my computer and speed up the performance! I highly recommend it

Jo H.

My computer was always popping up with registry errors and I couldnt get rid of them. Regtask did the job for me and took less then 5 minutes to speed up my computer.

Samantha J.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my computer started to experience random freezes, I just used Regtask and now it works normally again.

David G.

My computer is 5 years old and runs extremely slow now. I was a bit sceptical about using Regtask, but just decided to give it a shot in the end and it worked out fantastically for me.

On Windows computers being accessed by multiple users, where the users are using roaming profiles, there seems to be some problems accurately saving individual preferences. This is due in part to the way the preferences are stored on the system. Some of the data is stored in the registry while the rest is in the QuickTime file system. One solution is to simply modify the registry so that the QuickTime.qtp file is stored in the roaming profile. Use extreme caution when editing the Windows registry. Always make a backup before beginning. If at any time you are unsure about what you are doing, consult a computer repair professional. An improperly modified registry can render your Windows machine unable to boot.

More Info Regarding File Extension Qtp

Another possible solution for roaming profiles would be to copy the .qtp files to the local user directory before starting QuickTime, and then pointing the registry to the local folder for all roaming profiles. This also requires editing the registry so again, use caution. Please note that at this time there are no widespread reports of standard profiles being affected by this issue.

Mac users have reported numerous problems with the preferences file completely disappearing or just being empty. In some cases this error is caused by a corruption of the QuickTime Preferences Pane software. The suggested solution is to attempt an extraction of the original software from an installation disk using Pacifist, a third party utility for the Mac. If this fails, an archive and install may be necessary. Mac forums also contain multiple reports of corrupted preference files causing system freezes and crashes. Uninstalling the QuickTime software and deleting all associated files and folders will resolve the issue if it is indeed being caused by a corrupt .qtp.

One more widespread error has been reported when using Stuffit and later versions of QuickTime on the same computer. Something in the QuickTime preferences conflicts with Stuffit and causes both software packages to crash. Apple has been investigating this problem but has yet to find the cause or a workable solution. To date the only work around is to uninstall the Stuffit software. It has been reported that Mac help desk personnel are not very familiar with this issue, so note that they may not be very helpful.

Due to the nature of the QuickTime .qtp, there is no usable data for any program other than QuickTime. The .qtp cannot be effectively opened or modified by any other program. It is also recommended by experts that users who find their .qtp file missing or damaged not attempt to use a copy from another machine. Instead, users should re-install QuickTime.

The second file association for .qtp is with a software package called Astra QuickTest. This software is used to test the proper execution of dynamically changing web applications. The software generates a comprehensive report at the conclusion of a test, and if that report is saved it's given the .qtp extension. There are no inherent errors with these files, and it may be possible to open them with a standard text editor. No other information on the Astra .qtp file is currently available.
